FAQ

About 2PR

Q. Does 2PR also provide tax compliance services? Can you do my tax return?

No – 2PR does not provide standard tax compliance services and do not prepare tax returns.

Our mission is to provide support to tax agents, or in house tax teams. Reach out to your tax agent for assistance in preparing your tax return.

Q. I (tax agent) prepare advice for my client. How can you help?

2PR can provide a 2nd independent  partner review. We can review it for technical correctness, completeness and even proofread. We can also undertake a procedural audit, to satisfy professional obligations and Quality System requirements.

If your advice is difficult to implement or to calculate, we can work with you to undertake the calculations at your direction. For example, we can undertake the Allocable Cost Amount calculations for large groups based on tax advice/inputs prepared by you or us.

Q. Do you provide tax consulting services to tax agents or to their clients (the taxpayer).

We work with tax professionals.  Tax agents who work with us can choose whether they would like the engagement to be between us and them, or between us and the taxpayer. This arrangement also determines who is responsible for our fees.  We guarantee that we will not otherwise provide services directly to that client without your involvement.

We also work with in-house tax teams directly.

2nd Partner Services

Q. I am a sole practitioner with 5 staff. How have you helped other sole partner firms? Is it too expensive for me?

For sole partner firms we have been the ‘2nd’ Partner on an ad hoc, on call basis. Examples of services include:

  • Phone calls with the tax agent to provide tax advice on relevant legislation, rulings and case law to refer to
  • Drafting tax advice during busy periods
  • Review complex CGT calculations for inclusion in the ITRs
  • Review Quality System and other controls, to ensure compliant with Tax Practitioner Board and CA ANZ requirements, including providing recommended updates.
  • Being on call to discuss staffing and client challenges, and also holding regular goal setting sessions to improve profitability

We adopt hourly billing or fixed fee arrangements at reasonable rates. We provide itemised billing (where requested) to facilitate accurate job costings.

2PRs ability to provide advice on demand will save you hours of research and assist in providing quality outcomes.   We believe in providing quality service at a fair and transparent price.

Q. How do you bill for "On call services"?

On call 2PR services are charged on a traditional time / cost model.  However, we will only charge you for time on a call, unless we advise you up front.

Time is charged in 15 minute increments and generally billed monthly.

Q. Can I on bill to my clients?

Our engagements are typically with tax professionals.  The tax professional is not prevented from on-charging our fees to their client (the taxpayer) with or without a markup. We note that only agents registered with the Tax Practitioners Board are permitted to charge a fee for tax agent services or BAS agent services.

If you provide us your job code we can also include a reference to the relevant time, to assist with your job costing.

You should also consider any other TPB and professional requirements, including

  • Client confidentiality and disclosure of information to third parties
  • Client consent to use external consultants or outsourced services

Q. Is the advice verbal or written, and can I rely on the advice?

We recognise that often you just want someone to provide some general advice and guidance, or to point you in the right direction.

Any advice we provide verbally is considered to be general in nature and is not intended to be relied upon. If you would like to rely on our advice, you must ask us to confirm it in writing (an additional fee may apply).

Formal written advice can be provided for an agreed fixed fee.

2PR is a registered Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board.

Calculators and Templates

Q. I have purchased a Calculator. Can I use it for multiple clients?

Once you have purchased a Calculator, you are permitted to use it for providing advice to multiple clients, provided the advice is provided by your firm.  Once completed, the Calculator forms part of your workpapers. A copy of the Outcomes may be provided to your client.

We make no representations that the Calculator is appropriate for your circumstances and you should carefully review the Inputs and the Outcomes of the Calculator. We strongly recommend you consider having a tax agent review or verify the outcomes generated by the Calculator.  You can request 2PR review your specific outcomes.  The Calculator is up to date as at the time of publishing. Any changes in legislation may require an update to the Calculator, which must be purchased.

You may not on sell the Calculator. 2PR retains copyright in the Calculator, and unauthorised copying or distribution outside your firm is strictly prohibited.

Q. I don’t have all the Inputs to be included in the Calculator. Can I get a refund?

Prior to purchasing any Calculator, review all terms and conditions and supporting information to ensure that the Calculator meets your needs. This information will include information about the Inputs required. As the Calculator can be retained and used multiple times, no refunds will provided for incorrect choice.

If you believe there is an error, or omission please contact me admin@2pr.com.au.

Q. What can I do with a Calculator? How can I review the Outcomes?

Q. What can I do with a Calculator? How can I review the Outcomes?

A Calculator allows you to prepare certain calculations, based on Inputs entered by you. Each Calculator includes:

  • A Background – setting out the nature and scope of the Calculator
  • Inputs – to be entered by you.
  • Calculations / Details – we note that many calculations are hidden, to preserve 2PR intellectual property in the Calculator.
  • Outcomes - you will be able to access the full Outcomes which should be retained for your records.

Once populated, the Outcomes form part of your workpapers. A copy of the Outcomes can be provided to your client.

While all care has been taken in preparing the Calculator, it is your responsibility to ensure that the Calculator is appropriate for your particular circumstances. If you believe there is an error, or omission please contact admin@2pr.com.au.

Q. Some of the cells in the Calculator are locked, or hidden. Can you unlock / unhide them?

Some cells in the Calculator are locked or hidden. This is to assist in preserving the integrity of the Calculator and to preserve 2PRs intellectual property.

More generally, the Calculator will not be unlocked or unhidden.

However, if you would like the Calculator to be unlocked or modified to assist in customisation to your particular circumstances, please contact me admin@2pr.com.au. An additional fee may apply.

Q. My client needs a complex calculation undertaken and you don’t have a template?

While we provide some calculations and templates, we recognise that these do not cover all requirements of the Australian tax law.  If we do not have what you need, we can work with you to prepare a bespoke calculation based on your inputs and your requirements.  A fee estimate can be provided.

If a calculator does not fully meet your needs (for example, you have additional data fields which are not supported), or there is a ‘standardised calculator’ which you think is missing please reach out to us at admin@2pr.com.au
